The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate in the West Bank has strongly denounced the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces for persisting in committing offenses against journalists without any sign referring to willingness to curb such violations.
In a statement on Sunday the syndicate described the occurrence of assaults on journalists and the refusal of the PA to hold its security forces accountable for their actions as “a national disaster that requires effective national moves and quick unionist steps to escalate the situation.”
The syndicate condemned what it called the wrongful assaults on journalists Lara Kanaan in Nablus city and Majdulin Hassouna in Tulkarem city by PA security elements as they were covering national rallies held recently in those cities.
It affirmed that it would determine the appropriate steps to take during a meeting to be held on Monday in the presence of its lawyer and journalist Lara Kanaan.
