Karmi: We seek reform not destruction

Monday 6-February-2017

The popular conference for the Palestinians abroad which will kick off on February 24 represents new prospects and hopes for the Palestinian cause Ghada Karmi lecturer at the Institute of Arab & Islamic studies at Exeter University in the UK confirmed.

Karmi told Quds Press on Monday that since the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) relocated to the 1967 occupied territories in 1993 Palestinians abroad have been in need of an authority to represent them.

She added that the PLO has turned into a local authority while the National Council was paralyzed and not able to fulfil its job.

This situation compels Palestinians abroad to gather and search for a way to play a role in the Palestinian question. The popular conference for the Palestinians abroad will be among the first steps to achieve that goal Karmi underscored.

“The conference does not aim at destroying existing Palestinian institutions; rather this conference is a mere attempt to revive the paralyzed institutions such as the National Council and to expand it to group all Palestinian forces.”

She emphasized “We seek reform not destruction.”

“We do not threat anybody. We are not a substitute for anybody. Our message is that the Palestinians abroad should have a role to play in their cause” Karmi said
