NAZARETH (PIC)– Beleaguered Israeli president Moshe Katsav was officially charged with rape and sexual harassment charges among other violations as Israel’s attorney-general Menachem Mazoz decided to officially file the charges sheet in court.
The charges will put Katsav on trial after being accused of committing sexual harassment against five women working in his office in addition to a number of corruption and fraud charges.
According to the prosecution evidence against Katsav will be enough to indict him in court adding that he will look into reports that key witnesses in the case were threatened and subjected to mental pressures to force them not appear in court.
Calls for Katsav’s immediate resignation mounted in the Israeli parliament as more Israeli legislators described his presence in office after the charges filed against him as “harmful”.
Yet Katsav wasn’t the only Israeli official facing charges in court and engulfed with scandals as Israeli premier Ehud Olmert was also slammed with corruption charges and surrounded by scandals over his role in the privatizing the Leumi Bank.
Israeli veteran politician and first deputy-premier Shimon Peres affirmed Monday that Israel was passing a serious stage of self-destruction after more and more scandals on the part of Israeli officials and parliamentarians were unearthed.
