Khader Adnan resists Israel with his empty stomach for the 3rd time

Saturday 6-October-2018

Khader Adnan: A Palestinian prisoner who teaches the Israeli occupation a lesson after another forcing them more than once to act against their will due to his great determination. Adnan is in solitary confinement at Al-Jalamah detention center. He is fighting the occupation with his empty stomach for the third time in a row demanding his legitimate right to freedom and rejecting arbitrary detention.

In the midst of a lack of media coverage and solidarity with him Khader Adnan continues his hunger strike in the occupation’s prisons for the second month to protest his baseless repeated detention.

Poor solidarity
The weak solidarity with Adnan concerns his family. His wife Randa Adnan told the PIC: “The solidarity is very weak” adding “we need active participation and not just solidarity. Unfortunately we are fighting this battle alone and there are those who wait till the end just to register a position which is very different from supporting him from the beginning all the way till the end.”

“The idea of starting a hunger strike has been present since the first moments of his arrest” she said adding that her husband’s demands are normal and very fair. “The arrest was unjust and it must stop and he should be released” she said adding that she will continue to support her husband until he achieves his just demands.

Randa expresses her dissatisfaction with the coverage of her husband’s hunger strike on all levels noting “Few media outlets follow my husband’s case day by day but they are below the required level neither media nor solidarity including at the political level.”

As for the accusations of the occupation against her husband Randa adds that there are no charges and as usual they try to fabricate a charge against him explaining that the prosecution demands holding him in detention for 24 months. He might spend this period in administrative detention pointing out that what is her husband going through is not an issue but rather he is being held under administrative detention using the cover of the so-called “secret” case against him.

The Israeli occupation may resort to maneuver and deception as happened before by collecting information and confessions against him which mounted to 21. They did so in order to avoid another confrontation with Adnan which is a form of torture and ill-treatment to justify subsequent administrative detention against him as was the case previously.

Endless suffering
Speaking of her husband’s suffering she noted: “My husband is constantly being harassed moving him from one prison to the other from Megiddo in the north to Ramon in the far south and from there to the Salem military court in the north. The court ends each time by postponing the session which means going through the torment of being moved in a vehicle not fir for transporting humans known as the Bosta.”

As for her husband’s aim behind the strike she believes that every time the strike is announced it will highlight the arbitrary administrative detention of Palestinian prisoners the extent of the abuse and the suffering of the prisoners in detention as well as transferring them in the Bosta.

As for the years her husband spent in Israeli jails she explained that he spent more than seven years in Israeli jails distributed over 11 arrests; most of them were under administrative detention orders. Today he returned to raise his motto: “My dignity is more precious than food and water… and my right will be won despite your will” and that he will be released despite the will of occupation she elaborated

The Israeli occupation authorities continue to prevent lawyers from visiting prisoner Khader Adnan.

Adnan was arrested on 11 December 2017 and was charged with several “incitement charges”. He is from the town of Arrabeh in the northern West Bank city of Jenin. He was the one who started the empty stomachs battle against the policy of administrative detention in Israeli jails. In two previous strikes he won forcing the Israeli occupation to grant him his freedom.
