Khader flays Abbas over appointments’ policy in the faction

Tuesday 27-March-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– Jailed Fatah leader Hussam Khader has scathingly condemned the policy of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas in appointing officials in Fatah faction describing that policy as “deliberate” aimed at preempting obligations of the Movement’s sixth congress.

Buthaina Dakmak the lawyer of Khader quoted him as saying that Abbas’ appointment policy within Fatah faction was “wrong” and wouldn’t contribute to developing the faction or pushing it forward”.

Although Khader didn’t go into details of those appointments but many observers opined that he was reacting to Abbas’ appointment of Hussein Al-Sheikh another Fatah figure as leader of the Movement in the West Bank.

The last time Fatah held its congress was 17 years ago; however it attempted to hold the sixth congress in 2005 but the meeting was aborted and postponed more than once spurring overwhelming dissatisfaction among the Movement’s cadres.

Kkader was arrested at the hands of the IOF troops in 2003 at his home in Balata refugee camp in Nablus city despite his official status as a legislator in the PLC at time of his arrest.

He was leading the opposition trend within Fatah and known for his brave stands in criticizing erred policies of the previous Fatah-led PA governments including corruption political arrests and torture inside the PA jails.

But he threw his full support behind the PA unity government and described it as a “national achievement”.

He moreover expressed hopes that the unity government would be able to bail the Palestinian people out of their financial crises and to realize the national aspirations of the Palestinian people including the right of return for the Palestinian refugees.
