Khamenei warns of attempts to weaken status of Palestinian cause

Tuesday 21-February-2017

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic revolution in Iran Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the Palestinian cause “is the most important cause in the Muslim world and the focus of attention of all Muslims.”

Khamenei affirmed in a speech he delivered at the Sixth International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada in Tehran that the conference is held amid difficult regional and international conditions adding that the current conflicts rocking a number of Muslim countries led to the marginalization of the Palestinian cause.

He emphasized that the most dangerous thing in the midst of these conflicts is the attempts made to weaken and overshadow the Palestinian cause.

On the current Palestinian situation Khamenei pointed to the ongoing brutal Israeli repression of the Palestinian people including large-scale arrests killings seizing lands building settlements depriving Palestinians of their basic rights as well as the Israeli attempts to distort the identity of occupied Jerusalem al-Aqsa Mosque and other holy Islamic and Christian sites.

Khamenei confirmed that “these practices are enjoying all-out support by the United States and some Western governments and they unfortunately don’t receive appropriate international reactions.”

He pointed out that the Palestinian people have tried two contrasting models over the past three decades negotiations which he harshly criticized and resistance which brought great achievements to Palestinians according to what he stated and that’s why the Palestinian resistance is attacked and doubts are raised against the Intifada.

Khamenei renewed his country’s supportive stand regarding the Palestinian resistance which he described as “a principled stand” that is not related to a specific group but to whoever adopts this choice.

The Sixth International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada was launched on Tuesday in the Iranian capital Tehran under the sponsorship of Khamenei and with the participation of representatives of about 80 countries including heads of parliaments deputies heads of parliamentary committees and representatives of resistance movements.

The conference will discuss the regional and international challenges facing the Palestinian cause and aims to ensure the principle of unity end the internal divisions of the Muslim nation and mobilize energies to support the Palestinian people.
