Khudari: Closing crossings exacerbates human suffering

Saturday 12-June-2021

Jamal Al-Khudari Head of the Popular Committee for Confronting the Siege on the Gaza Strip stressed on Friday the need to separate the commercial crossings of the Gaza Strip from any political or security issues.

“The closure of the crossings is dangerous a flagrant violation of all international laws and exacerbates human suffering in the Strip” he noted.

Khudari said that the number of trucks that the Israeli occupation prevented from entering Gaza reached about 4000 trucks of goods and basic necessities that were imported through Israeli ports.

He pointed out that some businesses have shut down due to the lack of basic operating requirements which has increased unemployment rates now reaching nearly 65%.

He underlined that the current state of the crossings reveals the intention of the Israeli occupation not to start a real serious reconstruction process adding that such a situation entails monthly losses of more than $150 million to the besieged Strip in direct and indirect losses.

Khudari stressed that Gaza needs the start of reconstruction process the soonest and this requires a complete opening of the crossings and the passage of all reconstruction necessities without restrictions.

Khudari appealed to the international community to pressure Israel to open the crossings without any restrictions and to allow the passage of all life necessities all the seized goods and the requirements for reconstruction in accordance with the international law.
