Palestinian MP Jamal al-Khudari head of the popular committee against the siege said that the number of the unemployed persons in Gaza reached a quarter of a million due to the tightening measures of the Israeli siege.
In a press statement on Tuesday Khudari pointed out that the continuation of the Israeli siege for the ninth year in a row caused full or partial closure of 80% of factories in Gaza because of closing the crossings and preventing the entry of raw materials.
MP Khudari called for lifting the siege on Gaza Strip and opening all crossing for individuals and tradesmen in addition to the safe pathway between Gaza and the West Bank and establishing the Gaza seaport as well as Gaza International Airport.
He appealed to the Arab and international labor syndicates to support Palestinian workers and back up their steadfastness through establishing new work programs in order to provide jobs for the unemployed and offer them constant source of income.
