Khudari calls for accelerating resolving humanitarian crises in Gaza

Friday 22-June-2018

MP Jamal al-Khudari Head of the Popular Committee against the Siege asked the international community to accelerate putting an end to the humanitarian crises in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement on Friday Khudari said that the humanitarian conditions in the blockaded coastal enclave are getting worse day after day especially in the health and economic sectors in addition to electricity and water crises.

He elaborated that over 80% of Gaza Strip’s population are living under poverty line and that 50% of them are suffering from unemployment whereas 60% of the percentage are of the youth. He added that over a quarter of a million workers are suspended from work.

Khudari opined that what is required to overcome this deteriorated situation in Gaza is lifting the siege entirely opening the crossings and the water channel between Gaza and West Bank starting the construction of Gaza international airport and opening a sea port that connects Gaza to the external world.

He stressed the importance to come up with new projects that recruit Palestinian workers in order to alleviate the unemployment rate as well as to open international markets for exporting Gaza’s various products.
