Israel TV channel Seven on Sunday said that the Israeli government is set to discuss during its weekly meeting a new bill toughening sanctions on the families of the Palestinians who carry out attacks against Israelis in the West Bank.
According to the bill initiated by Jewish Home MK Moti Yogev the Israeli army will be able to expel families of Palestinian attackers to “other areas”.
“Deterrence is a cornerstone of Israel’s security as a way to save lives and preserve law and order” Yogev said affirming that the bill has the full support of the Shin Bet.
“The immediate expulsion of the terrorist family is a deterrent. When the legal process continues for weeks and months deterrence is lost” the statement explaining the bill said.
The Israeli Knesset on 27 May discussed a similar bill allowing the head of Central Command in the West Bank to expel first-degree relatives of the Palestinians who carry out operations against Israeli targets.
The Israeli authorities after failing to stop Palestinian resistance operations have enacted many laws that are allegedly aimed at “deterrence”. The sanctions mainly include executing the Palestinians accused of carrying out attacks demolishing their family houses revoking their relatives’ residency and work permits and imposing heavy fines on their families.
