Speaker of the Israeli Knesset Mickey Levy has asked Germany to help the Israeli government strike a prisoner swap deal with the Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip.
In press remarks on Wednesday Levy said he urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his recent visit to Berlin to make efforts to broker a swap deal with Hamas “to bring home Israeli captives and missing soldiers”.
In light of previous German success as mediators in brokering prisoner swap deals Israel wants additional assistance from Berlin in this regard he added.
Last Tuesday member of Hamas’s political bureau Zaher Jabareen said that the Palestinian resistance would force the Israeli occupation state to accept a prisoner exchange deal which he said would be honorable for the Palestinians.
He pointed out that many mediators had already intervened to broker a swap deal including from Switzerland Turkey Egypt Norway and Germany but most of them believed that Israel was not serious about exchanging prisoners.
