Tuesday 10-May-2022

The government of Kuwait has contributed $2 million to UNRWA the UN agency providing support for Palestinian refugees.

This funding has joined a previous $10 million contribution to the agency for its 2022 budget which is used to support its essential services for Palestinian refugees including health care education and relief.

Ambassador of Kuwait to Jordan Aziz al-Dehani handed on Sunday UNRWA acting director of external relations Tamara al-Rifai the donation check at the Kuwaiti embassy in Amman.

In press remarks Dehani said his country’s donation aims to strengthen UNRWA activities and programs in the region for some five million Palestinian refugees.

“It comes in accordance with the permanent directives of the high political leadership and on the instructions of the Kuwaiti government” he added reiterating Kuwait’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

Rifai for her part expressed her thanks to Kuwait for its generous support. “With this additional contribution Kuwait shows Palestine refugees that its long-standing support is still firm.”

“UNRWA is truly grateful to Kuwait’s government and people for their generosity and solidarity. In times of acute financial crisis like the one that UNRWA is facing now this additional contribution is very welcome and will hopefully encourage other partners to come forward” she added.
