Kuwaiti martial artist refuses to face Israeli rival in Hungary

Monday 23-May-2022

Kuwaiti martial arts fighter Nasser al-Faraj withdrew on Sunday from the jiu-jitsu championship held in the Hungarian capital Budapest after he refused to face a rival player from the Israeli occupation state.

Faraj is one of Kuwait’s professional martial artists and has represented his country in many international tournaments. He won second place in the Manchester jiu-jitsu championship which was held in March 2020.

Kuwaiti players’ participation in international sports events has seen withdrawals recently after draws placed them in matches against Israeli players.

Arab social media activists applauded such steps by Kuwaiti athletes and players as “part of Kuwait’s supportive positions towards the Palestinian cause.”
