Lawyer: Israel jailers severing Salah’s ties with outside world

Sunday 8-October-2017

Lawyer Khaled Zabarqa on Sunday spoke out against the dire conditions Sheikh Raed Salah has been enduring in the Israeli Ramon jail in the Negev desert.

According to lawyer Zabarqa Sheikh Salah the head of the Islamic Movement in 1948 Occupied Palestine has been denied the right to family visits since August 15.

Sheikh Salah has also been held in solitary confinement and banned from reaching out to other inmates Zabarqa told PIC.

He added that the Israeli prison authorities continue to ban Salah’s access to newspapers and books paying no heed to his ongoing appeals. Sheikh Salah has only got his Koran book at hand.

Zabarqa further stated that the list of indictments against Sheikh Salah is devoid of any legal basis. “The two last hearings have unraveled underway attempts to trump up charges against Salah so as to keep him in jail at any cost.”

Three court hearings are expected to be held in October November and January to decide on Salah’s case.

The lawyer said the defense attorneys proceeded with an appeal to release Salah until a final verdict is issued by the Israeli court. On Wednesday the Israeli Central Court in Haifa turned down a similar appeal filed by Salah’s defense panel.

The lawyer quoted Salah as stating that he will never give up his activism in support of al-Aqsa Mosque and homeland.

Sheikh Salah was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces on August 15 on account of his political activism and calls to defend Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam—against the mounting Israeli assaults.
