Sunday 22-June-2008

JENIN (PIC)– The Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies has urged all legal and human rights organizations to swiftly intervene and demand the release of a Palestinian detainee who has been held under administrative detention for 52 months.

The center in a statement on Saturday said that Adnan Hamarshe from Yabad village Jenin district was the oldest serving administrative detainee in Israeli occupation jails. He has been held in the Negev desert prison since his arrest on 28/2/2003.

Hamarshe 43 is the father of six children and is deprived of family visits Ahrar said adding that his administrative detention was renewed for ten times without charge or trial.

It noted that Hamarshe who suffers hypertension and Asthma appealed with the Israeli higher court of “justice” but the court refused to release him at the pretext that he posed a “security threat”.

The detainee was previously held in custody in 1988 when his brother was killed at the hands of the IOF soldiers after he tried to stop his arrest the center said.

It noted that he was again detained in 1994 and underwent “cruel investigation rounds” before he was sentenced to four and a half years. He was released in 1999 but was arrested three months after his release and held for six months under administrative detention the center added.

The Ahrar center appealed to international concerned organizations to shed light on the suffering of 1000 Palestinian prisoners including MPs and ex-ministers who are reeling under administrative detention.
