Palestinian citizens on Friday were able to ward off a horde of extremist Jewish settlers as they tried to infiltrate into in al-Lubban ash-Sharqiya village south of Nablus in the occupied West Bank.
According to local sources dozens of settlers tried to break into the historic Khan al-Lubban caravansary in the village before local residents confronted and clashed with them and the soldiers protecting them.
Settlers have tried repeatedly to attack the Khan al-Lubban caravansary in recent times but in last December Jewish settlers from the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Levona wreaked havoc on the place destroying its doors water pipelines the spring and many orange trees.
Last Monday the Israeli occupation forces also cordoned off the area where the Khan al-Lubban caravansary is located and embarked using bulldozers on smashing and knocking down its outer windows and doors.
Owner of the caravansary Khaled Daraghmeh says his property has been exposed to frequent attacks by settlers with the aim of seizing the place and annexing it to nearby illegal settlements.
Khan al-Lubban dates back to the Ottoman era and stretches over an area of 300 dunums of land.
