MK Ghanayem threatens to internationalize racist anti-Adhan bill

Sunday 20-November-2016

Arab Knesset member Massoud Ghanayem has threatened to have recourse to international organizations if the Knesset anti-Adhan bill has become a law describing it as racist legislation.

In press remarks Ghanayem said that “the bill poses a threat to fundamental human rights guaranteed by the international law including the freedom of worship.”

“Racists cannot stand hearing Adhan because it reminds them of the identity of this Palestinian Arab and Islamic land” he stressed expressing his rejection of any law not respecting the Islamic religion.

The lawmaker warned that the intended anti-Adhan law would join a series of racist laws enacted by the Israeli government and the Knesset with the aim of consolidating the Jewish state.

He called on the Arab and Islamic countries to take action to force Israel to backtrack on its intent to ban mosques from reciting Adhan through loudspeakers.

Ghanayem made his remarks after the Israeli ministerial commission for legislation at the Knesset announced its intention to discuss on Sunday a petition submitted by extremist Jewish groups calling for excluding from the anti-Adhan bill their use of sirens to announce the coming of Saturday according to their beliefs.
