MP Khudari: Beit Hanoun closure threatens lives of patients

Monday 20-August-2018

MP Jamal al-Khudari head of the Popular Committee against the Siege has strongly denounced Israel’s closure of the Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing in northern Gaza saying that the patients referred to hospitals in the occupied territories are the most affected by such measure.

In a press release on Sunday MP Khudari also said that the Israeli step would target the Gaza businessmen who hold travel permits.

He underscored that Israel’s closure of this crossing is illegal and arbitrary and puts the lives of patients in danger describing it as “persistence in tightening the blockade on Gaza.”

“The Beit Hanoun crossing is the only crossing point for the travel of people and only those who have the necessary permits are allowed by Israel to go through it” the head of the anti-siege group stated.

He stressed the need for keeping the Gaza crossing permanently open and spare them any conflicts pointing out that Israel is bound to open the crossings continually under international law and the treaty it had signed with the Palestinian Authority in this regard.

He called on the international community to take real steps addressing Israel’s persisting in violating the international law and tightening its blockade on Gaza.
