MP Khuraisha appeals for release of detained cancer patient

Tuesday 6-March-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– Hassan Khuraisha the second deputy PLC speaker on Monday appealed to international concerned institutions and legal organizations to demand the release of a Palestinian cancer patient held in occupation jails.

Relatives of Bashar Salahat who is serving a 13-year imprisonment term said he is suffering from stomach cancer.

They pointed out that the Israeli prisons authority does not extend proper treatment to Bashar and only provides him with tranquilizers which led to deteriorating his health condition and spread of cancer tumors.

Meanwhile relatives of Palestinian prisoners staged a sit-in Monday evening before the ICRC office in Gaza city in solidarity with their detained next of kin.
The rally particularly protested the Israeli deliberate medical neglect of those prisoners and mentioned the prisoner Bashar who contracted cancer in captivity a long time ago but no treatment was given to him.
A statement distributed by a society catering for those prisoners’ affairs said that hundreds of Palestinian prisoners were in need of urgent surgeries or medical treatment but the Israeli authorities were denying them this right.
The chairman of the society asked the ICRC to assume its humanitarian role towards those prisoners and appealed to the Arab leaders in their upcoming summit not to forget those prisoners and to assume their duty towards them.
