MP Tafesh: PA and Fatah not serious about the national reconciliation

Sunday 25-March-2018

Palestinian lawmaker Khaled Tafesh has said that the exposure of Palestinian citizens to politically motivated arrests by the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in the West Bank reflects that the PA and Fatah are not serious about ending the national division and seek to increase the suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation.

In press remarks Tafesh called on the Fatah-controlled PA to release all political prisoners put an end to this practice completely and concentrate its efforts on major national issues.

He pointed out the PA escalated its political arrests following the recent incitement speech by Fatah officials against Hamas affirming that such attitude was predictable and not new in light of Fatah’s ongoing escape from its obligations towards the national reconciliation which does not serve its factional interests.

The lawmaker appealed to the other Palestinian factions to play their role in the Palestinian arena instead of standing idly by as the PA persists in its antinational actions stressing that the detention of ex-detainees university students and national figures only serves the Israeli occupation.
