Head of the Palestinian Authority (PA) General Intelligence Service Major General Majed Faraj on Friday arrived in the Gaza Strip via Beit Hanoun crossing to meet with the Palestinian factions ahead of their visit to Cairo to complete the reconciliation talks.
A local source reported that Faraj is scheduled to hold meetings with Gaza security officials and leaders from Hamas Movement but no further details were given about these meetings.
The reconciliation agreement signed between Hamas and Fatah on 12th October stipulated that the West Bank-based security officials should meet with their counterparts in Gaza to develop mechanisms for addressing the security file in preparation for discussing them later in the Cairo meeting set to be held on 21st November.
In a related context the head of the PA Crossings and Borders Authority Nazmi Muhanna also arrived in the Gaza Strip on Friday to meet with the staff working at Rafah crossing which will be opened on Saturday.
The Palestinian embassy in Cairo announced on Thursday that the Egyptian authorities decided to open Rafah crossing for three days in both directions starting Saturday.
Delegations from the Palestinian factions in Gaza are expected to travel to Cairo during this period to participate in the Cairo talks.
