Marches to be launched on Gaza border areas

Monday 19-June-2017

The national and youth movements expressed on Monday their absolute rejection of the latest Israeli measures waged against the Gaza Strip and vowed to continue their peaceful protests against the 11-year blockade.

The two movements called in a press conference on the Palestinian youths in Gaza to go out in demonstrations toward the security fence between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied Palestinian territories in protest at the Israeli decision to reduce the power supplies to Gaza.

Spokesman of the youth movement Mahmoud al-Aila condemned the collective punishment policy pursued against Gaza’s residents and stressed that reducing the electricity supplies means tightening the blockade which has already exacerbated.

The youth movement announced that peaceful marches will be launched on Tuesday in different points of contact with the Israeli occupation forces on the eastern borders of the Gaza Strip.

They held the Palestinian Authority and its president Mahmoud Abbas responsible for the repercussions of this move.

The Israeli authorities started on Monday the first steps of a decision to reduce Gaza’s power supplied through the Israeli lines at the request of the Palestinian Authority said Mohammed Thabet from the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company.

Thabet explained that power supply was reduced from 12 to 8 MWs in both Baghdad Line which feeds Gaza city and Line 11 which feeds the southern provinces.
