Hundreds of UNRWA employees participated on Tuesday in a march organized in the northern Gaza Strip in protest at the UNRWA’s failure to meet their demands and backtrack on its decision to shrink services.
The participants also went out on strike that paralyzed all the agency’s institutions north of Gaza.
The protestors marched from a school in north Gaza carrying placards denouncing the UNRWA for its unfair policies.
The march which is considered the biggest protest rally against the UN agency was called for by the union of UNRWA Arab employees.
In a news conference held at the end of the event head of the union Suhail al-Hindi warned that the relief agency’s measures would lead to a real disaster in the occupied Palestinian territories if they persisted.
Hindi accused the UNRWA management of deliberately severing contacts with the union of its employees calling for stronger national action to support the employees’ struggle for their just demands.
