Mauritania strongly denied media reports that it was holding contacts with Israel for the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Israeli media claimed that Tel Aviv was holding contacts with a number of Arab and Islamic countries including Mauritania in order to establish diplomatic relations.
Al-Mukhtar Walid Dahi Minister of Culture and official spokesman for the Mauritanian government said in a press conference in Nouakchott that his country’s position did not change regarding its full support for the rights of the Palestinian people and its opposition to any secret contacts. He categorically denied any contacts with Israel for the establishment of diplomatic relations.
In 1999 Mauritania established diplomatic relations with Israel but severed these relations in 2010 in the wake of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
