Minister Abu Shahla meets UNRWA operations chief in Gaza

Tuesday 9-January-2018

Palestinian labor minister Ma’moun Abu Shahla on Monday met with director of UNRWA operations Matthias Schmale at the headquarters of the ministry in the Gaza Strip and discussed with him the US decision to freeze funding for the agency.

Abu Shahla discussed the impacts of the US decision on the UNRWA’s operations and the need for taking serious action by the UN against such US threat.

He stressed that the entire world is demanded to confront the US administration’s violation of the UN law and the UNRWA charter describing the US threat to cut funding for the UNWA as “aimed at liquidating the Palestinians’ right of return.”

The minister also said that “the UNRWA has to achieve the purpose for which it was founded which is to protect the Palestinian people and ensure the return of their refugees to their homes.”

For his part Schmale pledged to continue to do whatever it takes to ensure continuity of the URWA’s activities and the services it provides for the Palestinian refugees.
