The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) released Miqdad Al-Qawasmi and Hisham Abu Hawash who survived a long-term hunger strike in Israeli custody on Thursday evening.
However Israeli occupation forces (IOF) rearrested al-Qawasmi 24 a few moments after his release for unknown reasons.
Al-Qawasmi from al-Khalil was taken in a military jeep after reaching Al-Zahiriyah crossing along with other released prisoners.
A few hours later he was released and warmly welcomed by his family and Palestinian activists.
Last November al-Qawasmi ended his 113-day hunger strike after striking a deal with the IOA.
Al-Qawasmi has been in administrative detention with no trial or indictment since January 2021.
For his part Hisham Abu Hawash had ended his 141-day hunger strike launched in protest against his administrative detention without charge or trial in return for his release at end of his administrative term without any new renewal of the order.
Abu Hawash had reached a life-threatening stage after five months without food.
Abu Hawash and Al-Qawasmi’s marathon hunger strikes drew intense interest among Palestinians as well as international pressure on Israel.
In this regard Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem congratulated the two newly-released prisoners for their freedom from Israeli jails.
This achievement proves that our Palestinian people are able to wrest their freedom and to fight against the occupation by all possible means he said.
He also pointed out that the Palestinian prisoners’ issue will always remain at the top of the Palestinian resistance’s priorities.
