Tuesday 17-April-2007

DAMASCUS (PIC)– Hamas supreme political leader Khaled Mishaal Monday night discussed with a PLO delegation headed by Ahmed Qurei former PA premier means of initiating dialogue on restructuring the PLO.

Dr. Mousa Abu Marzouk deputy political bureau chairman of Hamas told PIC that the discussions centered on the importance of restructuring the PLO and reactivating its various institutions to enable it perform its role.

Abu Marzouk who attended the meeting said that the talks further covered obstacles impeding the rehabilitation of the PLO and means of overcoming them describing the meeting as “positive”.

Both parties asserted the importance of re-arranging the Palestinian internal home and endorsing national unity to live up to the Palestinian people’s aspirations the Hamas leader underlined.

He said that the PLO executive committee delegation’s visit to Damascus fell in line with attempts to solve problems amongst the Palestinian factions in preparation for the meeting scheduled to be held in Damascus to start the comprehensive national dialogue on the PLO in accordance with the Cairo and Makkah agreements and the Damascus meeting.

Abu Marzouk noted that the visiting PLO team met with a number of Palestinian factions in Damascus.

For his part Dr. Maher Al-Taher politburo member of the PFLP said that a meeting with Qurei was held to discuss similar issues.

Taher said that the team members held other meetings with representatives of other factions in Damascus describing his delegation’s meeting with Qurei as “positive”.

Shifting to another issue Taher who was speaking to the PIC described PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with Israeli premier Ehud Olermt on Sunday as a “waste of time”.

He charged that the meeting only attempted to present the Hebrew state to the world as a real partner for peace describing such an attempt as “deception”.

The PFLP leader asked Abbas to refrain from such meetings in future explaining that the “Zionist government only wished to gain more time to continue its aggressive scheme against the Palestinian people including judaizing Jerusalem constructing more settlements completing the separation wall annexing more West Bank lands and crystallizing new de facto situations on the ground”.
