Khaled Mishaal head of Hamas’s foreign political bureau said that he asked Lebanese officials during meetings with them to hold accountable those who carried out a massacre recently in Burj esh-Shemali refugee camp in the country.
“The killing of Palestinians by Palestinian hands hurts us but this should not make us abandon our keenness on the Palestinian unity and the safety and stability of the camps. We will not allow the incident to escalate into internal feuds but those killers must take their punishment” the Hamas leader said following his meeting with Sheikh Abdul-Latif Deryan Grand Mufti of Lebanon at the Dar al Fatwa headquarters in Beirut.
“Hamas respects this country its political authority and its laws so we asked officials in Lebanon to punish the killers arrest them and hold them accountable in accordance with the law because such crime cannot be justified but surely this does not mean that we are heading into internal fighting [with Fatah] God forbid” he added.
“We want stability in our camps and we will handle what happened wisely” Mishaal affirmed.
Three Hamas-affiliated young men were shot dead and at least 10 others including senior Hamas official Zaher Jabbarin were injured last Sunday when gunmen from the Fatah Movement opened fire at mourners marching in a funeral in Burj esh-Shemali refugee camp in Lebanon.
