Wednesday 23-May-2007

DAMASCUS (PIC)– The Hamas Movement’s supreme leader Khaled Mihsaal on Tuesday evening conferred in Damascus with the Syrian foreign minister Walid Al-Moalim on Israeli military escalation against the Palestinians.

They exchanged views over the situation and discussed the continued siege imposed on the Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip over a year ago.

They affirmed the importance of containing any attempt to incite internal strife in the Palestinian arena and to boost national unity to confront the “Zionist aggression and the siege”.

Both affirmed the importance of expediting an international effort to pressure the Israeli occupation authority into halting its attacks on the Palestinian people and to lift the siege on the West Bank and the Strip.

The Mishaal-Moalim talks also tackled the tragic situation in the Nahr Al-Bared refugee camp for Palestinian refugees in north Lebanon and both expressed “deep concern” over the deterioration of the human conditions inside that camp and called for swiftly solving the standoff there.
