Mishaal denies Hamas passing through crisis

Thursday 12-July-2007

GAZA (PIC)– Khaled Mishaal the head of the Hamas political bureau denied during an interview with Al-Aqsa TV that Hamas “was passing through a crisis” wagering that all forms of war imposed by America and Israel on Hamas and the Palestinian people would fail.

“Legitimacy cannot be granted by America and the Zionist entity or by suspending and circumventing laws” Mishaal said.

Mishaal highlighted that Hamas got accustomed to difficult conditions “and those who want to punish Hamas and the Palestinian people with basic things such as salaries must face the consequences (in reference to the PA chief Mahmoud Abbas who have withheld the salaries of thousands of civil servants at the pretext of being appointed by Hamas-led governments).

He added: “We are not talking about dialogue out of intellectual luxury and whoever thinks about seeking a solution without dialogue he only seeks objectives not serving the national interest. Hamas wants dialogue and Arab countries along with majority of Arab and intellectual elites are in favor of dialogue.”

Regarding Hamas’s vision about the security file he explained that Hamas wants a joint security and that the security apparatuses which belongs to the Palestinian people need to be restructured to be neutral and under the command of honorable and loyal patriots.

Regarding the Rafah crossing on the border of Egypt and Gaza he said that there were contacts with Arab countries and the Egyptian government but he expressed regret that “there is a Palestinian party refusing this crisis to be solved closing all doors of dialogue with us and opening them with Olmert.”

In the same context he reaffirmed that Hamas “does not want to monopolize power in Gaza. We don’t want to divide our homeland. We need unified authority and government” he said.

He pointed out to the fact that Egyptian officials rejected the idea of bringing international troops into Gaza.

He explained that during his meeting with the PA chief Mahmoud Abbas before the events in Gaza he discussed with him how to strengthen the Makkah accord and how to reinforce security and to strengthen the role of former Interior Minister Hani Al-Qawasmi adding that he had warned during the meeting of what was going on backstage in reference to the mutiny trend in Fatah which was preparing for a coup.

“It is clear now that there is a bet to put Hamas in the harshest conditions and to tighten the squeeze over Gaza by closing the Rafah crossing so that the Palestinian people would revolt against Hamas” he underlined.
