Mishaal warns of big explosion in the region if economic siege persisted

Tuesday 1-May-2007

DAMASCUS(PIC)– Head of Hamas’ political bureau Khaled Mishaal has warned on Monday that conditions in the region might explode in the face of the Israeli occupation government if the 14-month-old economic siege on the Palestinian people persisted.

He also affirmed that in the aftermath of the formation of the PA unity government and the signing of the Makka agreement the world has no more justification to keep the siege in place.

Yet he cautioned “If economic sanctions on the Palestinian people continued matters will definitely explode in the region and will affect not only the Palestinians but the entire region especially the Zionist entity”.

“I warn and I put under the word warn many redlines” Mishaal further affirmed as he was speaking in an interview with the Palestinian Al-Ayyam daily newspaper.

Furthermore Mishaal asserted that the Palestinian people are a proud people that do not accept oppression or humiliation advising detractors of the Palestinian people not to misread their pains and exhaustion.

Commenting on the prisoners’ swap deal Mishaal affirmed that his Movement was and still is keen to finalize the deal but he explained Israeli premier Ehud Olmert was the one spoiling the deal as he (Olmert) tries to blackmail the Palestinian party and always reneges on pervious pledges he made to the Egyptian mediator at the last moment.

He also elaborated that the swap deal if it took place will be done on stages each of which has its own specifications and preparations.

In addition the Hamas supreme political leader underlined that he isn’t aspiring to become the Palestinian president yet he asserted when responsibility is thrown on him he will shoulder it very well underlining “Definitely I will return to Palestine but on my own free decision and not under the Israeli conditions”.

Moreover Mishaal pointed out that most of the Palestinian factions agreed to establish an independent and geographically connected Palestinian state on the 1967-occupied Palestinian land.
