Flanked by heavily armed Israeli forces more than 100 Israeli settlers have stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday morning.
According to the Religious Endowments Authority nearly 75 settlers and 17 students broke into al-Aqsa Mosque in the early hours of Thursday before performing Jewish religious rituals near the Dome of the Rock Mosque.
Meanwhile head of al-Aqsa’s reconstruction committee Bassam Al-Hallaq said that Israeli police tried to prevent the restoration works in the Dome of the Rock for being conducted without Israeli permit.
Visits by Jewish groups including politicians have triggered violence over the years with Palestinians fearing that Israeli hardliners are trying to take control of the site.
