NAZARETH (PIC)– Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak is to ask Israeli president Shimon Peres to extend the moratorium on settlement building in the West Bank during a meeting between them in Cairo next Sunday Hebrew media reported.
Yediot Ahronot said that Mubarak would ask for the extension to avoid endangering negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The settlement freeze ends in September.
It noted that Egypt would also ask Israel to announce confidence building measures to facilitate the progress of proximity talks into direct negotiations.
The daily said that Egypt would ask for expanding the PA in Ramallah’s security control in the West Bank.
