RAFAH KHAN YOUNIS (PIC)– Armed men believed to be affiliated with the defeated mutiny trend in the Gaza Strip detonated a large bomb on Friday morning at the entrance of the Rafah municipality causing large material damage.
Another bomb was detonated near the home of Sheikh Nimer Hamdan a Hamas leader in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis.
The Mayor of Rafah Eisa al-Nashar confirmed that un-identified culprits detonated a bomb Friday at dawn causing damage to the gate and windows of the municipality building but no human casualties and that the police rushed to the scene of the crime and started an investigation.
Nashar refused to point the finger of accusation at any party stressing that the Rafah municipality is a service institution that serves all citizens and is keen to have good relationship with all parties.
“We have no dispute with anyone and we strongly condemn this criminal act” Nashar said.
However Nashar has not discounted the possibility that the explosion could be linked to the municipalities joint campaign with the police aiming to reverse breaches on public lands.
During the reign of the defeated preventive security in the Gaza Strip large areas of public lands have been stolen and used by high ranking officers and the municipality is trying now to return those lands to public ownership.
The other explosion near the home of Sheikh Hamdan caused damage to one of the houses in the vicinity but no casualties were reported.
