NGO: UN statements reflect tragic situation in besieged Gaza Strip

Wednesday 7-February-2018

The National Movement to Break the Siege on Gaza said the statement released by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reveal the intensity of the crises rocking the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Spokesman for the anti-siege movement Adham Abu Salmiya said the UN report reflects the tragic situation endured by the Palestinians in the Gaza enclave.

Abu Salmiya appealed to the UN-run institutions to take urgent action vis-à-vis the calamitous state of affairs in Gaza before it is too late.

He warned of the breakdowns rocking the health institutions and socio-economic facilities in the coastal enclave where 19 hospitals and health centers have gone out of operation.

He added that some 13 public hospitals 55 sewage water pools 48 desalination plants and a solid waste station are expected to suspend services by the end of next month due to the fuel crisis.

Abu Salmiya condemned the apathy maintained by the Palestinian consensus government as regards the situation in Gaza calling on Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah to take up his responsibilities and lift sanctions imposed on the enclave.
