Nablus municipality to launch marathon against checkpoints

Wednesday 1-March-2017

The preparatory committee of the marathon entitled “From Checkpoint to Checkpoint” held its second meeting on Wednesday in the municipality of Nablus.

Representatives of partner institutions including al-Najah University Project Hope the Red Crescent Health Care Committees and Tourism and Antiquities Police attended the meeting.

The participants discussed a number of issues related to the course of the marathon running from Beit Furik checkpoint east of Nablus city to al-Najah University. The marathon will be organized on 14th April 2017.

The name “From Checkpoint to Checkpoint” was meant to deliver a message to the world about the suffering of Palestinian citizens while moving between Palestinian towns and villages and to express rejection of the Israeli policy aimed at turning the West Bank into cantons and open-air prisons through the military checkpoints placed across the region.

The marathon is expected to witness a broad popular participation by local institutions and Palestinian citizens in addition to 100 foreign tourists.
