Senior Hamas official Basem Naim has accused the Western countries of practicing “double standards and values” at the expense of the Palestinian people.
“It has never been enough for the Western world to get involved in the injustice being done to the Palestinians through its silence and complicity with the Israeli occupation so it is practicing double standards and values at our expense” Naim said in Facebook remarks on Monday.
The Hamas official was commenting on a picture that showed European Union representative in Palestine Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff holding a placard in support of Ukraine while he was standing among Palestinian children who participated in the international marathon that was held in Bethlehem last Friday.
“Despite seven decades of persecution and injustice our Palestinian people are the most sensitive people on Earth who show solidarity with the oppressed and helpless peoples regardless of their religion color and ethnicity” he said.
“Who allowed this European official to take advantage of a Palestinian sports activity held to demand our own freedom to express his personal political opinion on a thorny and complex issue that is not related to the event?” Naim added.
He stressed that the European official was supposed to carry a slogan that supports the Palestinians’ demand for freedom and independence or calls for punishing the Israeli occupation state and holding its war criminals accountable.
