Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided on Wednesday evening to establish a new illegal settlement to host settlers evacuated from Amona illegal settlement which lies east of Ramallah.
In press statements Netanyahu had named a panel to push forward the establishment of a new alternative settlement.
In 2014 Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that Amona was built on private Palestinian land and must be demolished.
However the court’s order did not grant access to the Palestinian owners.
On Wednesday the Israeli Supreme Court overruled Netanyahu’s plan to relocate the Amona settlers to plots of land nearby which also happened to be privately owned Palestinian property.
Israeli human rights group Yesh Din which represented the residents of nearby Palestinian villages whose lands would have been affected by the relocation welcomed the ruling on Wednesday.
Earlier Wednesday Israeli police announced the evacuation of 28 housing units in Amona settlement saying that the campaign is still ongoing.
