Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered that every individual entering al-Aqsa Mosque will be examined individually by a police officer using a hand-held metal detector.
The decision was reached following a night agreement between Netanyahu and Israeli Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan.
Netanyahu’s decision came in the wake of a survey conducted by Israel’s channel 2 which revealed that the majority of Israelis believe that the decision to remove the metal detectors from al-Aqsa is perceived as Israel’s capitulation.
Earlier Tuesday Israeli Cabinet decided to remove metal detectors it had placed at the entrances to al-Aqsa Mosque and replace them with smart cameras. The measure was strongly refused by Palestinians who continued their protests at the entrances to the Mosque.
