Sunday 8-July-2007

GAZA (PIC)– A new summit meeting is expected to be held between PA chief Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli premier Ehud Olmert in mid-July at a time when Abbas still insists on refusing to open dialogue with Hamas.

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot in its Sunday issue reported that Salam Fayyad the premier of the unconstitutional “emergency” government will meet with Yuval Diskin the chief of Israeli intelligence Shabak on Sunday evening.

The newspaper also mentioned that in camera meetings were held few days ago between Israeli security leaders and Palestinian intelligence officers and security officials in the Fayyad’s government.

For his part Khaled Abu Hilal the secretary general of the newly established “Fatah Al-Yasser” movement offered PA chief Mahmoud Abbas during the movement’s celebration of its inception on Saturday two options either to resign from his post as chief of the PA or “to return to the arms of his Palestinian people”.

Abu Hilal revealed that he possesses confirmed information about a “conspiracy being hatched by Fatah MP Mohammed Dahalan to dispose of Abbas under direct orders from the Israeli and American administrations.”

In another development an opinion poll conducted by Ro’a (Vision) research center showed that 82.6% of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip believe that Abbas’s rejection of dialogue with Hamas is “detrimental to the national interest” and another large majority opined that what Hamas did in the Gaza Strip was “necessary”.

Furthermore the poll conducted on a random sample of 1314 people revealed that the overwhelming majority of Palestinians hate to revert to the previous security position and also reject any suggestion of deploying international troops in the Gaza Strip expressing at the same time their genuine feeling of security and safety after Hamas controlled security in the Strip.
