The Syrian air defenses repelled an Israeli missile attack at dawn Wednesday near the capital Damascus according to the official Syrian news agency SANA.
SANA said “Our air defenses confronted an Israeli aggression in the sky around Damascus” without giving further details. A Quds Press reporter in the Syrian capital reported hearing explosions.
In the same context the Israeli occupation army spokesman Avichai Adraee announced the downing of a drone inside Syrian territory on Tuesday evening.
Over the past few years the Israeli air force launched hundreds of airstrikes on Syria targeting Syrian army sites Iranian targets and Lebanese Hezbollah targets.
Israel rarely confirms carrying out strikes in Syria but it reiterates that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran’s attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria.
