New spate of Israeli airstrikes rock besieged Gaza

Sunday 16-August-2020

Israeli warplanes at dawn Sunday bombed different areas of the besieged Gaza Strip for the fifth consecutive day.

A reporter for the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) said that at least six air-to-surface missiles hit al-Qadisiya site which belongs to al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas in the west of Khan Yunis City.

Massive explosions were heard across Gaza during the night-time aerial attacks causing widespread panic among families.

A few hours earlier a wave of airstrikes also rocked Gaza.

According to the PIC reporter warplanes bombed a cultivated swath of land with three missiles in the east of al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza

A resistance post in northern Gaza was also stricken by at least 10 missiles causing loud explosions.

Another two missiles hit an observation post in the east of al-Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City.

No one was reportedly hurt in these renewed attacks but they caused severe material damage to homes and infrastructure.

The Israeli army claimed its renewed airstrikes were in response to persistent incendiary balloon-borne attacks that sparked dozens of fires in Israeli areas.

However local sources in Gaza describe the flying of balloons carrying incendiaries towards Israel by young men as acts of protest against Israel’s failure to honor previous ceasefire pledges to ease the blockade on Gaza and its persistence in attacking fishermen.
