Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions decides to boycott Israel

Sunday 21-May-2017

The Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions voted on Saturday at its annual conference in Oslo for boycotting Israel while the Israeli federation of trade unions the Histadrut expressed its dissatisfaction with the decision.

The boycott decision received 193 votes out of 315. The boycott includes all economic cultural and academic fields in addition to recognizing the state of Palestine within the 1967 borders according to Al-Jazeera Net.

A Norwegian trade unionist said that they have tried all the diplomatic means available and that boycott is the only remaining one adding that the international community must take a stronger action.

The decision angered the Israeli embassy in Oslo which strongly condemned it.

For their part the pro-Palestine Norwegian committees welcomed the decision. The head of the Norwegian Boycott Committee said “It is positive that an organization representing 900000 workers and about 20% of the Norwegian people votes for such a strong decision.”
