Ofer jailers punish prisoners after denying them winter clothing

Thursday 16-December-2021

The Ofer prison administration has taken several punitive measures against 12 Palestinian prisoners including isolating them for 24 hours fining them 200 shekels each and depriving them of receiving visits and using the commissary for a month.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) explained the situation that led up to these measures saying the prison administration refused first to allow new prisoners to receive winter clothes from their families although there was a previous agreement with jailers in this regard.

Those prisoners are in section 14 of the jail which is used as a transit jail.

PPS added that those prisoners responded to the Israeli refusal to allow them to have the clothes by refusing to leave the visit room but the prison administration immediately decided to punish them with several measures.

Later the prisoners responded further by closing the section where they are and refused to take their meals.

PPS accused the Israeli prison service and its jailers of shirking their responsibilities towards the Palestinian prisoners in their jails and depriving them of their basic needs pointing out that the prisoners face desperate shortages of important needs each winter.
