RAMALLAH (PIC)– Palestinian prisoners affiliated with the Islamic Jihad Movement in the Israeli Ofer prison called on human rights and law-oriented organizations as well as the PA concerned ministries to intervene to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners from torture and medical neglect inside Israeli jails.
The Ofer prisoners confirmed in a leaked letter that the health status of one of their prison mates called Mohamed Haribat 25 is deteriorating because of the prison administration’s refusal to allow him any medical checkup voicing concern that in case he does not get immediate medical care he will end up losing his hearing ability.
Prisoner Haribat had been subjected to brutal torture at the hands of Israeli investigators after having been kidnapped in mid 2006.
The letter also pointed out that the Ofer prison’s court refused to release Haribat and extended his detention despite his worsening state of health at the pretext that he had carried out activities and social events to the benefit of the Islamic Jihad movement.
In the same context the Ofer court sentenced Montaser Hamdan 38 to three years in prison in addition to two-year suspended sentence and a fine of 1500 dollars at the pretext that he had played a leading role in the Islamic Jihad movement established relations with Islamic Jihad leaders and financed their activities in Ramallah and El-Bireh district.
The family of administrative prisoner Walid Harb from the village of Iskaka Salfit city appealed to the organizations concerned with human rights and prisoners’ affairs to pressure the IOA in order to take him out of his solitary confinement in the Israeli Ramla Prison.
His family added that the IOA deliberately put pressure on him through the harsh conditions of isolation which is contrary to prisoners’ and human rights.
