Director general of al-Quds International Foundation Yasin Hammoud on Friday called for protecting al-Aqsa Mosque against incursions by Israeli settlers who take advantage of Hebrew holidays to impose a new reality in the holy site.
Hammoud in a statement condemned Israel’s “barbaric” practices against the Palestinian people and holy sites.
Hammoud noted in the statement that he had phoned the Jordanian Minister of Awqaf (endowment) Abdulnaser Abu al-Basal and demanded that Jordan announce serious actions against the unceasing Israeli aggressions on al-Aqsa Mosque during the upcoming Arab summit set to be held in Saudi Arabia.
He stressed that any aggression on Jerusalem and al-Aqsa Mosque is also an aggression on the entire Arab and Muslim nation.
For his part Abu al-Basal affirmed that Jerusalem will be at the top of Jordan’s agenda for the summit adding that the Hashemite Kingdom is seeking to develop an integrated action plan to protect Jerusalem and al-Aqsa Mosque in cooperation with several Arab and Islamic parties.
In a related context official spokesman for the Jordanian government Mohammed al-Momani on Friday condemned the Israeli “provocative” practices which violate the sanctity of al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Momani said in a statement that Jewish holidays have become occasions for stepped-up tensions at al-Aqsa Mosque with extremist settlers breaking into the holy site in large numbers under police escort.
