Oldest serving administrative detainee freed

RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has released Nazih Abu Oun 48 from the Negev desert prison after three years of administrative detention without trial or charge Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies and human rights said.

The center’s director Fuad Al-Khafsh said in a statement on Wednesday that Abu Oun a municipal council member of Juba village Jenin district was the oldest serving administrative detainee and had suffered a lot as a result of the repeated renewal of his detention.

He said that Abu Oun was arrested in 1993 and sentenced to four years behind bars after which he was detained once more in 1998 and sentenced to six years. However he was captured anew in 2005 and served administrative detention and released a year later only to be detained again in 2007 and finally released after three years of unjustified detention the director elaborated.

Khafsh urged human rights groups to demand the release of more than 200 Palestinian administrative detainees held in IOA jails adding that administrative detention should be annulled because it is in violation of international laws.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation forces on Thursday detained nine Palestinian citizens in various West Bank areas mainly in Nablus and Qalqilia.
