Olmert refuses to offer concessions during meeting with Abbas

Saturday 23-December-2006

Nazareth (PIC)- Israeli premier Ehud Olmert would not release any Palestinian prisoner or offer concessions during his expected meeting with PA chief Mahmoud Abbas later Saturday.

The Hebrew second TV channel quoted sources in Olmert’s office as saying that the premier would not offer “political concessions” during that meeting or even announce the release of Palestinian prisoners since Abbas does not have the power to ensure the release of Israeli captured serviceman Gilad Shalit.

The sources added that Olmert’s position was officially relayed to the PA chief’s advisors during meeting with Olmert’s advisors to prepare for the meeting.

A political analyst for the TV channel said that Olmert-Abbas meeting would tackle three important topics topped by prisoners roadblocks and withdrawal from occupied lands.

He predicted that Olmert would agree to remove a number of the 700 road barriers installed by the IOF troops in various West Bank areas but would refuse to release any Palestinian detainee as long as Shalit remained in the hands of resistance factions in the Gaza Strip.

He ruled out any positive outcome of the meeting as Olmert and his Kadima party were not ready to offer any political concessions to Abbas.
