About 1200 Israeli settlers at dawn Tuesday broke into Joseph’s Tomb east of Nablus City in the presence of an Israeli minister and a number of rabbis.
Local sources told Quds Press that several buses carrying nearly 1200 Israeli settlers entered the area while escorted by armed forces.
They said that violent clashes flared up between dozens of Palestinian youths who tried to confront the break-in and the Israeli forces who heavily fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated metal bullets at them.
Israeli forces and settlers storm almost every week the eastern area of Nablus to perform rituals at Joseph’s Tomb which they think is the resting-place of the biblical patriarch Joseph while locals and Palestinian historians affirm that the grave belongs to a local medieval Muslim sheikh called Yousef Dweikat.
