Dozens of extremist Jewish settlers desecrated the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem on Sunday morning and later in the afternoon.

According to al-Qastal News website at least 147 settlers entered the Mosque in groups through its Maghariba Gate and toured its courtyards under tight police guard.

A number of settlers escorted by police officers also gathered in the eastern area of the Mosque and embarked on performing Talmudic prayers.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation police continued to impose restrictions on the entry of Muslim worshipers to the Mosque and harassed a number of them during their presence in its courtyards and the entrances leading to it.

Recently Jerusalemite activists have urged their compatriots to necessarily intensify their presence in the Aqsa Mosque compound during the coming days.

They stressed that the intensive presence of Muslim worshipers at the Aqsa Mosque is important to protect it against Judaization and desecration attempts by settlers who plan to defile the holy site en masse during their upcoming Hanukkah holiday.

Recently Itamar Ben-Gvir a leader in the Israeli far-right Otzma Yehudit party and who will be Israel’s national security minister in the upcoming government has vowed to change the status quo at the Aqsa Mosque.

Speaking to a Hebrew radio station last week Ben-Gvir responded to a direct question on whether he would allow Jews to pray overtly at the Aqsa Mosque by saying that he would do everything to prevent what he called “racist policies.”

The Islamic Awqaf Administration in Occupied Jerusalem has always described the settlers’ presence in the Mosque’s courtyards as “provocative” and “a violation of the holy site’s Islamic sanctity.”
